Preparing for December Daily in my Journal - Ruby Rock-It Creative Team

This is the time of year when I am starting my preparations for December, in my last Ruby Rock-It Creative Team post I shared with you my setting up a Pocket sized TN as my wallet with a Christmas feel using Crafter's Choice Nostalgic Traditions and Today I wanted to share with you the other important part of my December that needs preparing.  My December Daily Journal, like my October Daily I combine December Daily with my journal keeping as I have found it is the only way I can get it completed.
With doing December Daily each year I struggle with needing Summer feeling Christmas supplies that suit it as apart from maybe 3 or 4 traditional coloured spreads my layouts tend to be needed Summer feeling supplies as it is so hot here at that time of year, so when I saw Crafters Choice Festive Pop I felt it was perfect for my DD Journal this year.  I am combining it with some items from Nostalgic Traditions but I think I will mostly use Festive Pop as it is so fun and perfect for hot weather Christmas memory keeping.
I selected the Festive Pop 6x6 paper pad, Sticker Booklet and Die Cuts for setting up my DD Journal, they coordinate so well with the gold striped notebook I am going to use for my journal.

I knew I wanted a pocket inside the front cover to hold the various numbered items, memorabilia I collect, etc while awaiting my weekly sit down and stick in my memories session so I selected a paper from the Festive Pop 6x6 paper pad to form my pocket.
At the end of December when I am finished with the supplies I keep in the pocket I will use it to hold mementos that don't fit on any of my layouts, thereby keeping my memories from December together and easy to find.

I measured the inside of my cover and added a inch to the  measurement and a half inch to the  measurement.  I cut my paper to this size and then scored a half inch on 2 sides and the bottom.
I snipped out the corners and folded my scored sections over, burnishing for a crisp fold.
I added Stickmast Heat Resistant tape to my folded edges.
Note I use heat resistant tape when I can't use liquid glue as the climate in my home all other adhesive other than my preferred Helmar Glue and the Heat Resistant Tape gives way during Summer.

I adhered my pocket down to the inside of my cover, being careful to line it up with the edges.
How perfect is this paper for the inside of this cover?

Next I went through the paper pad and pulled out one of each of the papers that had numbers on them.

I partially cut them up to put in my pocket, ready for on the go memory keeping.

Aren't they just perfect for a Summer DD?

Now I could move onto my front cover.

I went through the Festive Pop Sticker Booklet and decided to spell out December 2019 using 2 of the alphas in the booklet.

I added 2 stars from the Festive Pop Die Cuts to the top corner, gluing them down with some Helmar Acid Free Glue.

Next I built a cluster down the bottom with trees and presents from the Festive Pop Die Cuts and Festive Pop Sticker Booklet.

I needed a tiny present under the green tree and next to the pink and silver tree so I cut the present this cute dog was carrying from the sticker and layered the badly cut edge under the tree, I then neatened up the dog and added him to my cluster as he is so cute.

Finally I decided the inside of my cover needed a bit more so I selected this awesome spotty paper from the Festive Pop 6x6 paper pad and cut it just a shade narrower than my pocket.  I adhered it with Helmar Acid Free Glue, tucking it into the pocket.

I held the pocket slightly open for a few minutes to ensure it wouldn't stick closed.  I accidentally tore the top of my pocket so I selected this blue sticker strip from the Festive Pop Sticker Booklet and stuck it down along the top.  To pull the blue further into the layout I added a blue tree sticker to my pocket.

As my star on the front was poking up I added 2 stars from the Festive Pop Die Cuts to the inside of my cover, lining them up with the bits that were poking up.

While I had the  out I cut out the number stickers from it and added them to my selection in my pocket.  Now I have plenty of choice when I am documenting my December memories.

I really love how Summery my journal feels.

October Daily Journal Day 2 to 5 - Helmar Creative Team

I wanted to share with you some more pages in my October Daily Journal for 2019, you can find the post for my Set Up and Day 1 for 2019 here and my flip through of 2018 here.

My journal is about documenting our day to day life, my thoughts and feelings.  I document the good and the bad and the deeply personal so I will cover sensitive information with sticky notes as well as photos that someone has asked not be visible online.

I counted my pages and my notebook is a few pages short so keeping this in mind days 2 to 4 involved a tip in/fold out.

To create my tip in/fold out I selected paper for Day 2 and 3, building the individual pages independently, using Helmar Acid Free Glue to adhere my journaling, photos, clipart, shopping tags and other elements to my pages.

With the shopping tags, I stapled them together in bundles for which op-shop they were from and then glued each bundle down just at the top with Helmar Acid Free Glue.

I inserted my Tim Holz number brads in place on both pages before adding them to my journal, ensuring they weren't directly back to back.
To add the tip in/fold out into my journal I adhered Day 2 in with washi tape and then glued Day 3 to the back of Day 2 with Helmar Acid Free Glue.

To ensure they wouldn't go anywhere before I got around to creating day 4 I adhered a piece of  paper from Simple Stories  to what would become Day 4 with Helmar Acid Free Glue, making sure the paper went over the washi and was glued down well onto it.

For Day 4 and 5 I decided to blend some Distress Oxides over the pages.

I added a tip in/fold out for some of my Day 4 journaling and then simply adhered my journaling, photos and clip art to my pages with  Helmar Acid Free Glue.

On Day 5 my Tim Holtz Number Brad was placed directly through the notebook page.

I love how my little interactive section has turned out.

Halloween/Spring with a Sketch YouTube Hop

Wow it is time for our October Hop already, this year has gone so fast.
I am super excited about this Hop as I am participating in it.

We have a Sketch to work with for this hop and the ladies have done a awesome job interpreting it in a variety of ways.

Here is the Hop List.

Amira

Chrissi
Kristina
Niamh
Raelene (Me)
Wendy

Here is the Playlist I have created so you can easily find all the videos.

In addition to my October Daily Journal this year I am doing a October Daily Mini inside a Personal sized Filofax Domino in Aqua as Aqua/Teal are part of our Halloween as we participate in The Teal Pumpkin Project, so working in this size made this sketch challenging for me.

Head to my video to see my process for making the sketch work in a 41/4 x 7 inch format.

Here is my video, make sure you hop on to Wendy

October Daily 2019 Preparation & Day 1 - CraftOnline Creative Team

Last year I did my first October Daily project, I decided to do it the way I found success with December Daily and combine it with my journal keeping.  I loved how it turned out and wanted to do the project again this year but I am torn, I love doing my October Daily and December Daily combined with my journal keeping but I also really want to do a cute Halloween mini that is focused on doing Halloween prompts so I decided to prepare for both.

As I couldn't find my small Halloween stash so I needed to start from scratch this year and ordered some great goodies from CraftOnline.

Items used in this project
Poppy Crafts Candelabra Die
Poppy Crafts Cute Cat Die
Poppy Crafts Blooming 6x6 Paper Pad
Poppy Crafts 6x6 Textured Cardstock Pad
Poppy Crafts Christmas Glitter 6x6 Cardstock Pad
Simple Stories Say Cheese Collection
Doodlebug Planner Insert Daily Dots Daily Doodles Calendar
Tim Holtz Ideaology Countdown Brads
Helmar Acid Free Glue
Helmar Chrystal Kote Matt Varnish
Dorland's Wax Medium
Universal Crafts Embossing Tool
Stickmaster Heat Resistant Double Sided Tape
Distress Oxide Seedless Preserves
Distress Oxide Carved Pumpkin
Distress Ink Peacock Feathers
Distress Ink Wild Honey
Distress Ink Black Soot
Distress Ink Carved Pumpkin
Vellum
Silhouette Die Cutting Machine
I used the older Universal Crafts Fine Line Applicators but here is a link to the new ones that I can't wait to try.

I adapted Serena Bee's October Daily Prompt List to a list that better suited a Halloween specific project as the Fall prompts don't suit me since I live in the Southern Hemisphere and I wanted to save Spring Prompts for a November project or maybe for September next year.  You can download a copy of my Prompt List here, I also added a October Awareness & Cultural Day List to the document, some Awareness & Cultural Days change each year so some may be incorrect for 2020.

I printed my prompt list on to vellum and distressed it with Distress Oxide in Carved Pumpkin and Seedless Preserves and added some Distress Ink in Black Soot and Peacock Feathers to give it a grungy Halloween look.
I glued some adorable pumpkin paper from Simple Stories Say Cheese Collection to my page and adhered my list to it with Helmar Acid Free Glue,  washi and stickers from the Simple Stories Say Cheese Collection.

.
I cut out the Poppy Crafts Candelabra Die from white cardstock and black glitter cardstock and then coloured the flames with Distress Ink in Wild Honey and Carved Pumpkin.
I cut the candles from the black glitter cardstock die cut and glued it to the white cardstock die cut.
I think it turned out super cute.

Click on this photo or the video below to watch my Process Video and see how I created my cover, a pocket inside the pocket, added my lists and completed my Day 1.

October Daily is a lot of fun no matter what format you choose to do it in so why no join in the fun and give it a go, it doesn't matter that it is a few weeks in you can still join in the fun.
Serena has a great Facebook Group that are full of inspiration.

White with 1 November Challenge - ET Awareness - Guest DT

When I saw the colour prompt for this month it was really special to me as I have been planning to do a fundraiser inspired by my Mum's journey with a rare blood cancer next year and had just started to select items for that kit.  The colour for Essential Thrombocythlamia is Orange so the kit will have some lovely orange bits.

This was a difficult layout for me to do mentally as I was working on it in October which is always a tough month for me as her anniversary and her birthday both fall in October but I think it was a important step in my journey of grief.

I wanted to make a TN sized layout to add into my October Daily as a tip in for the date of her anniversary, so I cut some watercolour paper to size as my base.

I pulled out my orange bits from the fundraising kit and from my October 2017 kit.  As well as my Distress Oxide in Carved Pumpkin and just started playing.

Here is a process video showing how it came together.  The next day I decided to change it a little so check out the below pic for the finished result.

In addition to the paper bag I added a label and flower from the October 2017 Kit cut apart and added a number 9 sticker to form a sort of date cluster for my October Daily.

I greatly appreciate all the support I had with my fundraiser in May.  Due to the support of my subscribers and fans I was able to make a good sized donation and with your continued support hope to do so again next year.  I will announce which charity it will be as soon as I have the donation approval letter from them, so make sure to check our social media regularly so you don't miss out on this announcement as Facebook doesn't always show you posts from pages you follow.

Mary Poppins Memories in a Pocket Page Notebook - Scrapping Fun Kits DT

Living in the town PL Travers was born in means I have a lot of Mary Poppins memories to document in addition to my memories of enjoying the movie as a child and again as a parent with my children.  I really wanted to do a mini album for all these memories but I couldn't decide on a size so I thought a Traveller's Notebook insert would be perfect for this project.  I love TN Scrapping it is a great way to get memories down quickly.

So Today's post is about documenting this year's Mary Poppins Festival, I left several pages in the front of my insert for documenting my childhood memories and taking my kids to the festival when they were younger to the Festival.

The boys weren't up to attending this year but my 20 year old was visitng so we went down together which was a lovely nostalgic time for us as she hasn't attended since she was in Primary School.  Despite her not wanting to have her photo taken she did post for a photo when buying a ice cream from the oldest operational Mr Whippy in Australia and a quick selfie with me when eating the ice cream.

There was so many wonderful costumes and so much going on, we could have taken hundreds of photos and not captured all the wonderful things.
So let's get started with some of the pages I created.

I started with decorating the cover of my Pocket Page Notebook (the one I bought was a seconds and is great, just some crinkles in the pocket pages) from The Stamp Spot.   You may have seen this already if you follow me on Facebook and Instagram.

You can find the Process Video for this here.  (sorry  no voice over as I am still learning to use this new software)

I used Distress Inks to blend a sunset background.  My distress tool had gone missing so I just used a dry baby wipe and it worked really well for getting the ink down and blended.

I then glued the London Cityscape die cut from the Scrapping Fun Kits August 2018 kit along the bottom of my cover and a die cut of Mary Poppins to the front.

Perfect for all my Mary Poppins memories.

For this layout of my daughter buying a icecream I used the adorable kite paper along the top and added a scrap of paper from Kaisercraft Rose Avenue to the bottom.  To hid the join I used the lace from the August 2018 kit that I had left over from creating my White with 1 Challenge layout.   To finish hiding the join I created a cluster with stickers from Kaisercraft Romantique collecion and a die cut from Kaisercraft Wandering Ivy collectables.
I coloured my typed journaling with Distress Ink Walnut Stain using the same technique I used on my Butterbeer layout last month.

I love how this page turned out.  The kite paper coordinated so well with my scraps and the lace was just perfect for pulling it all together.

Some photos on layouts are covered due to my forgetting to ask permission to share them.

The kite and spoon from the cut apart combined with one of the cute wood veneer tea cups in the August 2018 Kit were the perfect little accent for this layout which is some photos of people costume.
I loved seeing people of all ages in costume, from young children and teens to adults of all ages including many elderly people.  It was fantastic to see everyone having so much fun so a large part of this project is photos of people in costume.

The Penny Farthing chipboard from Memorymaze that was in the August 2018 kit was perfect for documenting my search for the men who come with Penny Farthings each year.

I used the left over piece of kite paper for the background and added a Mary Poppins clip art I found online, a tag from the printable I made and some bits from Kaisercraft Wandering Ivy Collectables.

You can download the printable I made here.

I was getting towards the end of my supplies but the clock and carousel horse from the cut apart in the kit and one of the wood veneer tea cups were perfect for this layout of a pic of the Mary Anne (a old steam train that runs in Queens Park every Thursday, at Sunday in the Park and at the Mary Poppins Festival).
I also added a label from the printable I made myself and used some paper from Kaisercraft Wandering Ivy for the background.

So there are a few of the pages in my Mary Poppins Pocket Page Notebook.  I will share more pages in another post at 3pm up on my blog and the Helmar blog and I will have a flip through up on my Youtube channel shortly for you.
I hope it has inspired you to create.
If you would love one of these kits I have a couple left so head to the Subscription Tab and fill in the form, as it is the end of the month enter August into the promo code box so I know you want the August kit.

Back to School - White with 1 June Challenge Guest DT for Scrapping Fun Kits

Raelene here with my Guest Designer layout for the White with 1 June Challenge.
When I saw the name of this month's colour I just had to try and include some bits from the STEM/STEAM kit.  In addition to the bits from the April Kit I pulled out supplies from the May kit, a paper from a TN kit and supplies from a upcoming kit so I would have a variety to choose from.  Unfortunately my shade wasn't quiet right but

I was torn between photos of the boys first days of school this year or photos from morning tea with my cousin last year, in the end I went with the school photos as Mr C loves space so the prompt really drew me to recording a memory specific to my boys.

Due to the length of my ribbon I decided to do a TN layout as it was only a couple of millimetres too short so I cut it so the gap would be behind the embellishment on the journalling spot, this flair from the May 2017 Kit hid the gap nicely.

Instead of the journalling the sketch shows I cut down a paper bag to size and used some Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue to stick the base and side back together and used this for some hidden journalling, the sketch had a small tab on the journalling card so the flap of the bag was perfect for this.

As this layout is about how technology has allowed my kids to attend school from home and learn about all kinds of wonderful things I decided to use the Mars Rover Flair and a Moon Sticky note for the bottom embellishment cluster with 2 cute washi from the TN Kits.

I love how this layout turned out.

Strong - Scrapping Fun Kits Design Team - Scrapbooking on the Train

When I was packing for a trip on the Tilt Train with my son for his Rheumatology appointment I knew I would take my TN set up but that I wanted to add all the flat pieces from the May Fundraising Kit to it as so many of the photos I currently am working with are of our EDS journey.

The first photo I chose to scrap was this photo of C having his first trip to the park using his wheelchair.  I journal about how the wheelchair gave him more independence and how important that was.

Having cut my tissue paper into strips made it even easier to scrap on the Tilt Train as those tray tables are very small so the less I needed to to do pull a layout together the better.  The only cutting I did was my photo and I just tore the length of the tissue paper to shorten it.
I had scraps of the gorgeous blue paper from another layout with me so I used one of these as a matte for my photo.  Adding some of the blue butterfly washi to the layers behind the photo.

I repeated things a little on the left with the left over piece of tissue paper and some of the washi and I added the left over piece of the cut file that says strong to that cluster as my title.  Ideally I wanted my titled to be Independence but I had to work with what I had and strong did seam perfect for the photo I was using.

I took some clearer photos once I was home.

I love how the layers turned out on the left, you get to see more of what is hidden behind the photo and it just pulls the layout together.

I love the torn effects of the tissue paper, and the little butterflies on the washi tap.

There are still a couple of the May Fundraising Kits left so if you would love one of these kits head to the Subscription Tab and fill in the form or email scrappingfunkits@gmail.com

Zebra Strong - Moodboard Challenge - Scrapping Fun Kits DT

The May Moodboard is inspired by my and my children's journey with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS so I wanted to document part of that journey for the Moodboard Challenge.

I chose this photo of my hand taped to stabilise my finger that keeps dislocating.

I used part of the paper from the May Fundraising Kit (note my colour is slightly different to the rest of the team and the customer kits as my copy was a misprint), a strip of the zebra tissue paper which I tore at each end layered on top the blue butterfly paper to mat my photo with.
I cut my photo in 2 and trimmed a little off so it could be spread over the 2 pages in my TN.

I then journalled on my page about how the taping helped reduce the frequency of my finger dislocating.

A quick layout but I love the results.

Scrapping Fun Kits - White with 1 Guest DT - Happy Mail

I am so excited Scrapping Fun Kits is sponsoring White with 1 for all of 2018.
As a sponsor I get to be a Guest Designer so today I have a layout for you for the White with 1 January Challenge.

As my kits are often more than 1 colour I went through all my kit supplies for previous kits and upcoming kits to find some goodies to use for this colour prompt, so you get a sneak peek of some supplies that won't feature in kits until Winter 2018.

I have a Processing Video for you.

I started by placing the embellishments and papers from my stash that would suit on my desk to  inspire me and found a photo that would work with the supplies, I also pulled out a stamp that would coordinate with the gorgeous butterfly washi and a ink pad that would suit this colour prompt.

How gorgeous is the washi and lace that will be in a upcoming TN kit?
And that flower that will be in a upcoming embellishment kit is so cute.

I decided on  a TN layout as I am loving how quick they are to  put together  and  I love the size, however my insert has cream paper so I had to cover it with some white paper, I just used normal printer paper.

I have loved creating for this month's White with 1 Challenge and I hope to see you  join me in entering.
The prize from Scrapping Fun Kits this month is one of our sold out December kits, if a subscriber wins who already has the kit I will exchange the kit for a shop credit.

I look forward to seeing what you create so please let me know if you enter.
