We are all moved and 90% unpacked so I got to scrapbook for the first time in months and it was so good to be creating the way I love most again. I have had to edit this video a lot as there were long periods of indecisiveness as I was out of my usual flow, if that makes sense, but I am really happy with how this layout of my Granddaughter posing in a Mermaid cutout turned out.
I cut the shell die cuts with some Kaisercraft Cardstock in my stash, it is a old colour and no longer available. I would suggest trying Kaisercraft Oatmeal and blending inks to get the result you want.
You can view my Process Video by clicking on the pic or video below.
I love how this layout turned out. All the little bits that say I am a Mermaid were just perfect for telling the story of the photos and prompting my memory of it.
My granddaughter loves Frozen, so much of her conversations are full of Elsa, she loves Elsa so much so with her 3rd Birthday coming up in November I thought making her her a Frozen themed mini album for her Mum to put some precious photos in would be a lovely gift she could treasure.
I set to work building a Frozen themed kit. I wanted a large variety of snowy/winter items to get that Frozen feel so this became a great way to use those winter products that are geared to people who live in areas with snow.
I started by selecting a range of snowflake dies to create die cuts for my album, selecting some gorgeous Bazzil Bling cardstock and then searching for some papers in blues and that perfect shade of purple. I added a Kaisercraft purple cardstock to my kit and then some gorgeous flowers and I called my kit ready. Here is what I ordered (I will put a asterisk next to items I used).
I started by working out sizes to cut the various pieces needed to create my interactive pages, so my finished page would be 6 inches high and 4.5 inches wide. Once I had figured this out I cut a set and assembled my prototype adjusting any measurements as needed. I have included the measurement in the video.
Once I had my prototype page set put together I wanted to see how it would look with papers on and I had this idea of creating a journey to Elsa's castle with the Disney A5 Build A Scene paper pad.
So I started by selectively cutting the pieces for my top and bottom
flaps so you would enter through them on your journey to Elsa's.
I used this winter forest paper from the pad.
When you open the top and bottom flaps you find yourself at this beautiful mountain scene.
I added the snowflakes to the inside of the top flap to hid my magnet as I forgot to add them on my prototype page before adhering my papers down.
Then when you open the side flap you find yourself at Elsa's Castle.
I wasn't thinking at the time and I didn't cut the paper, I just spread it over the flap and scored it, this has caused the page to not open properly, so if you are wanting to do something like this I recommend cutting the paper where the page folds out from.
Here is the video showing how I created my mini album.
Some other features in my album include a Shaker Pocket, which I added to the top flap of what became the front page set. I really wanted to include a Shaker pocket in some way into this album so that Ev would have some snow to watch fall.
I decorated the front of the Shaker Pocket with some of the gorgeous Poppy Crafts Snowflake Dies. And I added a border to the inside with the Find It Trading Amy Design Christmas Wishes Snowflake Border die.
I love how the album looks when you first open it. I think Miss E will love the interactivity.
After calling my project finished I decided to go back and add some snow to the front cover using the Echo Park 6x6 Stencil Winter Night and Fabre Castell Glass Bead Gel, I love the results. It looks like Anna is reaching up to the falling snow now.
I hope this project has inspired you to create something. If it has please let me know, I would love to check out your work.
Late last year my friend welcomed a precious baby boy into her family and I wanted to make her something she could treasure so I decided to make a 6x6 mini album for her sweet boy.
I filmed a flip through before delivering it but I was delayed in editing it and typing up this post so I decided to just wait until the kit that the adorable Giraffe I used on the front cover was revealed to share it with you.
The Giraffe was the only kit item I used on this project as at the time it was the only component I had avaiable but it was absolutely perfect for the cover of this album.
As is so often the case my decisions about where embellishment go is decided by my mistakes. A error on the spine helped decided how the embellishments would be place on the spine.
I think it turned out really cute.
To see the rest of the album check out the flip through video as photos just don't do it justice.

And as I was time poor and hadn't created a mini like this since I stopped tutoring in 2015 I decided to utilise this fantastic tutorial from Your Book Of Memories that has all the measurements ready and all the math done.
When I saw the new Echo Park Easter Wishes range I felt it was perfect for getting the some of the photos from Easter 2017 scrapped. I made some changes to our Easter traditions that year so I have been waiting for the perfect supplies to scrap it.
I had some photos of the boys preparing treats for our Easter
celebration in 2017 that I really wanted to get scrapped but one of them
the lighting angle has affected the quality so I knew it needed a
darker background than the usual spring themed Easter supplies provide
so this Autumn Easter themed kit was perfect for getting these scrapped.
I
love the torn paper look on layouts but I often forget to do it when I
am speed scrapping so for this layout instead of pre-cutting my papers
into smaller scraps ready to use when layers I took inspiration from Julie's layout and tore 2 thin strips off each paper, 1 of each I tore into smaller pieces for my corner clusters.
I matted my photos with a scrap of Kraft Cardstock and glued my layers and photos down with Helmar Acid Free Glue.
For
my embellishments I decided on the eggs from the cut apart and some
stickers from 2 Echo Park Easter themed sticker sheets; this year's
Easter wishes and last year's Hello Easter. I pulled in some chocolate
bunnies, eggs and a cute chicken and Easter bunny from the stickers to
build my embellishment clusters.
For the tiny eggs I cut them from a border strip from the Easter Wishes sticker sheet.
When
cutting the pieces of sticker away I noticed the waste piece between
this border strip and the one above it and thought it would be a cute
extra layer in my papers so I cut some off to add to my paper layers.
When adding it I carefully peeled back my papers a little and just sort
of poke it in so the white was under the papers and just the colours
were showing I then glued the edge of my papers back down with Helmar
Acid Free Glue.
I
used a tiny word sticker from the Echo Park stickers and added the
Easter Eggs tiny word from the word sheet I just trimmed the outline off
so they looked like they were meant to be together.
I
finished my layout off with the year and a doodly boarder. And then I
decided to move a sticker so my date looks like it is floating but I
still love my layout I just have to decide what to add next to the date.
There are still a couple of these kits available so if you would love one of these kits head to the Subscription Tab and fill in the form. :)
I started with the mixed media paper from the Alice Kit as the teal colour on the paper matched the Mad Hatter in my photo's coat so well so I knew I wanted that paper behind that photo.
I then started playing with papers from my Echo Park 6x6 Alice in Wonderland paper pad and the check paper from the kit to build my paper layers.
Once they were all glued down I decided it needed some of the gorgeous character washi so I added it in just slightly tucked under the papers on each side (so glad I hadn't glued all the way to the edge at this point).
I then played with my embellishments. Starting with the sample of purple lace as it was a perfect layer to tuck under the Alice photo.
I then added my mini Cheshire Cat Tail by tucking the top under my photos, which meant my photo needed to be popped up so I carefully peeled it up and then cut bits of the chipboard stickers waste to go under my photo matte and added Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots in as well to give it some good but adjustable lift.
Now that the tail and photo were how they should be I set about adding the final bits to finish it all off. I added a quote from the Chipboard Accents using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots under the left hand side to give it the right amount of lift on that side (you can see how it is popped up in the photo of the paper layers under the Mad Hatter photo).
I then added the bottle and mushroom chipboard but they didn't want to stick so I used some Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to help them stick.
I built a mini scene with the catapillar to get him to sit right I added some chipboard scrap under the top section and glued him to the mushrooms and the layout with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
Next I added the key, mouse and little butterflies and finished off with a doodly boarder and my journalling. I am really happy with how the layout turned out.
By the way Alice aka miss_deelicious is the only cosplayer on the day whose details I managed to get, she spotted me when she was on the way to her car to head home and just had to get a selfie "Where have you been all day." is what she happily shouted when she spotted the Cheshire Cat, totally making my day. Hmm I think I need to add "Where have you been all day: to my layout. I will need to get it out and spend some time thinking about that.
