Unwrapping Presents - Travelers Notebook Tip In - Helmar Creative Team

Due to the way life is working out this year I won't get to see my eldest and granddaughter for Christmas so they visited for a little bit last Monday and I gave my Granddaughter some of her presents, we saved one for her to open with Papa Bear on her sleep over Thursday.  I really wanted to get this into my December Daily but with the chaos of packing and purging to move I haven't done a single day in it, not even typed up my journaling since we got word about the move.  I decided to make a 4 x 8 1/4 inch tip in page for my DD, that way it can go anywhere in the TN insert when I get it done

I started by cutting down some white cardstock to size and inking the edge with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink, then to ensure the Distress Ink wouldn't blend with my next stage I took it outside and gave it a coat of Crystal Kote Fixative.

I wanted to add some blue and pink to the background and decided using my very old sprays would be a great idea.  So I just sprayed a assortment of blue, pink, yellow and silver sprays onto the cardstock, dabbing it with a cloth if it was too much. 

Since Miss E's presents from us were Frozen based fine motor skill and sensory play I wanted it to feel like colourful snow.

I then took it outside and gave it a coat of Chrystal Kote Gloss Varnish to add to the shine of the shimmer some of the sprays had.  Since Miss E's presents from us were Frozen based fine motor skill and sensory play I wanted it to feel like colourful snow.
















I adhered my photos to some white cardstock with Helmar Acid Free Glue.

I then adhered my matted photos to my background along with some lemon tissue paper (Miss E was wearing lemon) and some die cuts, including a Labrador as our Lab cross rescue came in during the unwrapping and was all over my daughter with lots of loving doggy behaviour while she was watching Miss E unwrap, so this die cut was a great prompt to help me remember when I type up the journaling.



 

I am really happy with how this tip in has turned out and can't wait to get it into my December Daily happening after the move.

Easter Stargazers - Helmar Creative Team

On Easter Weekend 2016 we decided to watch something we had missed when it was live (I love that catch up TV means we can watch things when it suits us) so Easter Saturday we brought up the Stargazing Live event with Professor Brian Cox and so began a day filled with pausing iview so hubby and the boys could discuss some Astrophysics.  It was a interesting day, especially seeing E start to expand in his enthusiasm and knowledge for this topic and was just another step in my journey as a person with multiple Astrophysics enthusiasts in my life.


I really wanted to tell this story in my album, as I don't have photos of us on the day I thought a good way to do this would be to scrap a photo of the Hubble Space Telescope  and a photo from the Hubble Space Telescope that my husband and boys love, the Ultra Deep Field 2014.
The photos from the Hubble Space Telescope are public domain which is just so awesome as it means my boys and hubby can surround themselves in their favourite photos, for example Hubby's work diary has dividers made from some of his favourite photos.


To create my layout I grabbed out a selection of Space themed scrapping supplies in my stash and started playing.

I decided I wanted to matt my photo on some of this shimmery navy paper I have in my stash and that I should have a border of it around my layout too.  I thought the border would be perfect for my journaling but I wanted to be sure it would fit before I started so I grabbed my gold gel pen and wrote my journaling around the edge of my 12 x 12 shimmery navy paper.  I cut out the middle by leaving 1 inch all the way around.



I selected a background paper from the Carta Bella Space Academy pack that I bought from Aunty Vera Scrap and Craft last year, I went with Racing Rockets as I love the Solar System map on the back.
I needed to trim it so it wouldn't cover my journalling and I started by first trimming 3/4 inch off the bottom and 3/4 inch split between the 2 sides to get a 11 1/4 inch piece.  I then checked it wouldn't cover my journalling and trimmed another sliver off the bottom and side.

After some playing I decided to make the Hubble Space Telescope itself the main feature photo of this layout.  I matted it on some of the shimmery navy paper and then I started layering.  I had a small scrap of this gorgeous paper from my Crafter's Choice Galaxy paper pad so I wanted to save what was going to be behind my photo and I cut a little window out.

I added a scrap of the star paper from my Scrapping Fun Kits April 2018 kit and another layer of the shimmery navy paper and then I decided to use my husband's favourite Hubble Space Telescope photo as layer so I trimmed out what would be behind my layers, applied some Helmar Acid Free Glue to the inner edge so I could play with my layer cluster to get it just right.
I then applied Helmar Acid Free Glue around the outside of the back of my cluster and through the middle to ensure I would get all my layers adhered down.

For my title I decided on Easter Stargazers.  I decided to use some very useful Ruby Rock-It chipboard alphas and paint them gold to pull it all together with the journalling.

I adhered my chipboard alphas down with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

For the Stargazers part of my title I used a sticker from the sticker sheet from Carta Bella's Space Academy pack. 
I needed to adapt the Stargazer sticker to say Stargazers so I stuck a S from some old Basic Grey alphas so some white cardstock and trimmed it.  I then stuck this and the sticker down to a scrap of that shimmery navy blue paper and roughly cut around it.

As my Easter was thick chipboard I felt Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots was my best option for adhering down Stargazers as it would mean I cn adjust the height easily to suit my chipboard alphas.  I applied several dots along my word and at the S and g I added a extra on to ensure the full length of the letter would be supported.

I love how it sits up perfectly with my chipboard alphas.













My photo cluster covered over a planet on one of the outer circles so I decided to add this cool wood veneer planet I got from Corbett Creations last year to my layout as well as the cute stars that came in a pack with it.

Now that I was happy with everything I needed to adhere it to my journalled boarder but my Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots were still drying so I ran some Helmar Acid Free Glue around the inside of the journalled paper and then put down my main paper.

Using Helmar Glue gave me the wiggle room I needed to get this perfect without having to possibly rip my page if I didn't get it perfect first time.  And best of all I know my project will last a lifetime.

ANZAC - Scrapping Fun Kits Design Team

Last year on ANZAC Day the boys and I spent the day exploring the Discovering ANZACs website and reading all the documents about my Grandfather and my Grandmother's brother, I really wanted to scrapbook these important stories from our family history but I just didn't have enough suitable supplies so I made some Watercolour Poppies that day and then started work on creating a ANZAC inspired kit.

I scrapped the photo my Great-grandmother sent Grandad while he was stationed in France during WW1 earlier this month and on ANZAC Day I spent some quality scrapping time scrapping the restored photo of Grandad from WW1. 

I started by aging my cream cardstock with Distress Ink in Antique Linen and Vintage Photo, I also edged all my paper layers and my photos with Vintage Photo.








I started by playing with my papers until I was happy with my layers, trimming out any paper that would be behind things and adhering them together with Helmar Acid Free Glue.  When sticking them down I didn't glue to the edge so that I could tuck things in later.
I wound up tucking in some Fundamentals white paper doilies later as once my embellishments were going down it felt like it needed it.

I stepped a little further outside my comfort zone and created a big field of poppies with all my Watercolour Poppies, the fabric and resin poppies from the kit and the poppy washi from the kit.  I usually don't do a cluster of flowers this big but I do love my poppy field. 






I started by sticking down some of the poppy washi and then sticking down all my watercolour poppies.  I then added my poppies and the leaf die cuts from the kit.
And finally added 2 wood veneer clock faces and some chipboard flowers and swirls from a old pack of Basic Grey chipboard.

For my title I grabbed out the letters for ANZAC from some Ruby Rock-It chipboard alphas and painted them with some gold paint. 
Once dry I inked them with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo to create a more brass look.









I added some scraps from a vintage crochet doily to my layout with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive (I used this for the wood veneer clocks and the resin flowers also) and some green embroidery thread. 
I placed a piece of the vintage doily in my top left cluster and into my main cluster, carefully poking it under flowers so it looked like it belonged in the cluster rather than being added as a after thought.

I added some Ruby Rock-It red micro beads to my cluster by just dabbing a little Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive in random spots.












I added some paper scraps and washi to my top left and bottom right corners to draw your eye.

 I was so worried while I was building this layout as I do not usually do a big flower cluster but I absolutely love how it turned out.

Appleless Apple Pie - Ruby Rock-It Creative Team

Hello Ruby Rock-It Fans, Today I wanted to share with you how making kits helps me create.
Creating a kit is the first step I do when crafting, I do this as I find it helps me create.  I find things flow better if I have a selection of supplies that may suit my project ready to go so I can just play.
Today's kit and project were inspired by the gorgeous Apples paper from Bella Red Gallery.

There is bit of a story to how this project came about.
When I saw this gorgeous Apple paper from Ruby Rock-It I wanted Apple Pie but there is one big problem as my kids and I have Fructose Malabsorption so we can't eat apples.  I was telling my friend who also has Fructose Malabsorption and she told me she found a recipe for a Appleless Apple Pie that uses Jatz crackers, intrigued I did some googling and from what I can tell this started as a practical joke but as someone who can't eat apples but loves apple pie this is awesome.
I decided since there is some excellent gastronomical science in this recipe that it would be a great educational activity to do with the boys.  However life chaos has meant I haven't baked the pie yet but I have converted the recipe to metric and written it on a index card so Today I am scrapping that card onto a 12x12 layout.

Once I started working I decided to add 3 Mini Distress Inks to my kit.  Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Fired Brick.

I stared by cutting my papers.  I cut a 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 piece from Cluck, 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 from Straw, 6x8 from Apples and 8x10 from Worktop.

As I played with my papers and my index card I felt the index card needed to be aged so I blended Antique Linen Distress Ink over the index card and blended the edges of my Cluck and Straw papers also.

I then just slightly edged these papers, my index card and the Worktop paper with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
I edged my Apple paper with Fired Brick Distress Ink. 
I also blended Antique Linen around the edge of my background cardstock and then edged it with Fired Brick and then a slight edge of Vintage photo.




I glued down my Worktop paper approximately 1 inch in from the left side and the top and bottom and then glued the Straw and Cluck papers down on a angle but I only added my glue in the centre so I would be able to tuck thing in as I played.  I added my index card at a angle too. 

Later when I had all my embellishments down I decided to add a white paper doily, I cut it in half and tucked it under my papers.  I then glued the edges of my papers down.









I painted the letters to spell Pie and a flower from the chipboard alphas wih red paint, once the paint was dry I inked them with Fried Brick Distress Ink.  Once this was dry I sealed them with Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish to give them a nice shine and to ensure if my layout ever gets wet that the ink won't run. 
I then sealed all my papers and index card with Helmar Chrystal Kote Matte Varnish to ensure they won't run either.

I needed some flowers so I decided to make a flower from the remainder of my Apples paper and the cardstock I cut away from behind where the Worktop paper was going.
I grabbed my nearest flower punch and punched out 3 flowers from my paper.  I coloured the back of my flowers with Fired Brick Distress Ink and edged them once dry.  When half dry I scrunched them up and unraveled them.

I glued my layers together by placed a drop of Helmar Acid Free Glue in the middle and layering them slightly off centre.
I then added a drop of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and poured some of the gorgeous Ruby Rock-It Micro Beads onto it.  I grabbed a tooth pick and sort of mixed them into the glue a little and then I grabbed out my Just Bead It JBX84 Round Brass Beads, Silver and dipped 3 per flower into some Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and added them on top of the Micro Beads.

I thought the Circle Tags could make a cute representation of a pie so I gave a tag the same treatment I gave my cardstock and I blended the edge with Antique Linen Distress Ink and then edged it with Fired Brick and Vintage Photo.  I tucked it under my photo matts and added my letters.

I then added my 2 big flowers and filled out my cluster with some little brown roses from my stash.

I love how the 2 different papers coloured with Fired Brick Distress Ink turned out.
I scrunched them a little more once glued down.

I added my chipboard flower to the top right corner of my index card.

To finish off my layout I dabbed my Fired Brick Distress Ink onto my craft sheet and added water, I then splattered it with a paint brush all over my layout to look like I had spilt something on it while cooking.

It's Time For A Magical Adventure - Scrapping Fun Kits Design Team

Today I am scrapping the left over photos from my We're All Mad Here layout for the Scrap the Girls November 2017 Challenge entry.   The video for this layout is now up on my channel, you can find it here.

I grabbed out some extra bits in addition to my remaining Alice kit; these included Echo Park Alice in Wonderland 6x6 paper pad and Echo Park Alice in Wonderland Chipboard Accents.

I started with the mixed media paper from the Alice Kit as the teal colour on the paper matched the Mad Hatter in my photo's coat so well so I knew I wanted that paper behind that photo.
I then started playing with papers from my Echo Park 6x6 Alice in Wonderland paper pad and the check paper from the kit to build my paper layers.

Once they were all glued down I decided it needed some of the gorgeous character washi so I added it in just slightly tucked under the papers on each side (so glad I hadn't glued all the way to the edge at this point).

I then played with my embellishments.  Starting with the sample of purple lace as it was a perfect layer to tuck under the Alice photo.

I then added my mini Cheshire Cat Tail by tucking the top under my photos, which meant my photo needed to be popped up so I carefully peeled it up and then cut bits of the chipboard stickers waste to go under my photo matte and added Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots in as well to give it some good but adjustable lift.


Now that the tail and photo were how they should be I set about adding the final bits to finish it all off.  I added a quote from the Chipboard Accents using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots under the left hand side to give it the right amount of lift on that side (you can see how it is popped up in the photo of the paper layers under the Mad Hatter photo).
I then added the bottle and mushroom chipboard but they didn't want to stick so I used some Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to help them stick.
I built a mini scene with the catapillar to get him to sit right I added some chipboard scrap under the top section and glued him to the mushrooms and the layout with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
Next I added the key, mouse and little butterflies and finished off with a doodly boarder and my journalling.  I am really happy with how the layout turned out.








By the way Alice aka miss_deelicious is the only cosplayer on the day whose details I managed to get, she spotted me when she was on the way to her car to head home and just had to get a selfie "Where have you been all day." is what she happily shouted when she spotted the Cheshire Cat, totally making my day.  Hmm I think I need to add "Where have you been all day: to my layout.  I will need to get it out and spend some time thinking about that.
